Continuing an established tradition, the youth choir BALSIS invites you attend their concerts at Riga’s St Saviour’s Anglican Church on December 22 and 23 at 8.00pm and December 25 at 11.00pm.

In 2016 the choir, along with it’s conductor, Ints Teterovskis will finish off a marathon year of concerts, festivals and competitions (76 concerts in total) by preparing a Christmas Concert programme. This time the key phrase for the concerts is that of a FESTIVE SPIRIT! It will include pieces of music that have left lasting and powerful impressions on the choristers, sung either here or on the other side of the world. A festive spirit we believe is created when you are surrounded by a sense of wellbeing and peace, along with ardour and a sense of the unknown.

During the concert FESTIVE SPIRIT! classical and recent pearls of choral singing will be heard. The work of Handel, Brahms, Rachmaninov and Sisask will be heard along with that of Latvian composers such as Dubra, Zilvers and Vaivods.

A concert constant, the opportunity for audience members to join the choristers in singing well known Christmas songs, will again take place in the second half of the concert. The choral soundscape will be enhanced through performances by Kristine Adamaite (organ) and an instrumental group led by Mick Wilson. A multimedia experience will be created through the lighting effects of Peteris Birins,, a frequent collaborator with the choir.

You will also be treated to chorister homebaked gingerbread, hot drinks, a warm welcome and a festive feel. These concerts will mark the commencement of BALSIS 30th season of performances, an achievement which will be commemorated more broadly in the following 12 months. These Christmas concerts are made possible through financial support from the Riga Dome.
